LRE Activates First Stand-Alone Battery Energy Storage Facility in California’s Antelope Valley

KERN COUNTY, Calif., May 29, 2025 (VSNewsNetwork.com) — Renewable energy company LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) has announced that its 126-megawatt / 504 megawatt-hour Antelope Valley Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility is now fully operational in Kern County, California.

The Antelope Valley BESS marks LRE’s first grid-connected, stand-alone battery storage project and the company’s seventh operational clean energy site in the state. The system utilizes four-hour Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by Powin and is designed to store electricity when demand is low and release it during peak usage periods.

According to LRE, the project created approximately 90 construction jobs and is expected to contribute an estimated $30 million in property tax revenue over its operational lifespan. LRE also noted it has made community donations in Kern County, including contributions to Rosamond Hills Senior Apartments and the Kern County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse.

LRE currently operates more than 4 gigawatts of renewable energy projects across the United States and is targeting 10 gigawatts of operating assets by 2028.
